Call for Workshops, Meetings, and Activities

Proposals will be reveiwed on a rolling basis; all submissions due no later than 9/1.

We invite your agency, organization, group, or committee to host a workshop, attached meeting, or related activity in conjunction with the event. These sessions will be held on December 7 and 11, with limited availability for meeting space on other dates.

Workshops and Attached Meetings

One of the main intents of the attached meetings/workshops is to bring offerings to this event that have tangible values/outcomes/skillbuilding for participants. Workshops and meetings can be open for all attendees, or by invitation only. All attendees and organizers should be registered for the event. 

Examples of attached meetings and workshops that we are already planning for or that could be possible:

  • SB310 workshop with the Karuk Tribe (planned)
  • Statewide PBA meeting (planned)
  • Trainings for federal employees: NEPA compliance, NWCG classes, etc. (possible)

Community Events and Activities

We invite attendees to suggest and organize an activity to be associated with the event. This could be a social or networking activity for attendees, or a way to share information or have fire discussions with communities in the local area. We will help with logistics, sharing the info with attendees so you can attract participants, and sign-up if needed. Here are some ideas we would love to see happen! Submit a proposal for one of these or anything else!

  • Presentation or discussion with a local community group
  • Beneficial fire presentations or gatherings in Spanish, and/or on the other side of the border
  • Indigenous art show or market 
  • Dinner gathering for attendees interested in a specific topic or to bring together an affinity group
  • Beneficial fire special convoys to local schools, to bring fire topics to youth
  • Morning walks, running, or yoga
  • Evening get-togethers for music, film viewing, or socializing
  • Family activities for those bringing children
  • Your creative ideas!

Proposal Due Dates

  • Before September 1: Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the due dates stated below. 
    • Because sessions and presentation opportunities are limited, we highly recommend submitting your abstract as early as possible. After completing the proposal form, a member of our planning committee will reach out to discuss your proposal and notify you of acceptance.
  • September 1: All submissions due
  • September 15: Organizers and presenters notified of acceptance

  • The Beneficial Fire Summit is a collaboration with the Association for Fire Ecology, UC ANR Fire Network, California Fire Science Consortium, Northern California Prescribed Fire Council, Tall Timbers Research Station, and University of Nevada Extension/Living With Fire.
